Smith Named President at Dexter Credit Union

Richard E. Smith of Portsmouth, Rhode Island has been named as the new president and CEO of Dexter Credit Union, according to an announcement by Stephen J. Angell, Esq., chairman of the Board of Directors.

Smith has served as senior vice president and chief operating officer at Dexter Credit Union since 2003, responsible for the overall operation of the branch system, loan operations, collections, staffing, facilities management, compliance, and other regulatory mandates.

Before joining Dexter Credit Union, Smith served for seven years as vice president and senior lending manager with People’s Credit Union. Earlier in his career, he held lending officer and operations positions with financial services institutions including the MBTA Employees Credit Union in Boston and Fairlawn Credit Union in Pawtucket.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island, and completed the three-year program conducted by the National School of Savings Bank, Finance and Management at Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut. He also completed executive development programs offered by the National Council of Savings Institutions and the Commercial Business Lending Management School sponsored by Citizens Bank.
